The prestigious FAOAAM designation is granted to a chosen group of AOAAM physician members in recognition of their significant contributions to the Academy and the field of addiction medicine.
Requirements:

  1. D.O. or M.D. degree from an accredited medical school.
  2. Possess and maintain an Addiction Medicine or Addiction Psychiatry board certification through either the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
  3. Possess and maintain a primary board certification through either the AOA or ABMS.
  4. Candidate is an active member of AOAAM and has been so for the previous 3 consecutive years preceding the application.

Must Meet Two of the Following Three Criteria:

  1. Candidate has given significant service to the AOAAM, as evidenced by serving on committees or the Board of Trustees or has provided significant assistance to the medical education mission of AOAAM by speaking and lecturing at conferences, seminars, or other designated educational formats.
  2. Candidate has supported AOAAM by attending at least 2 AOAAM meetings in the past 3 years, or was a regular member participating in committee or board meetings for at least 3 years preceding the application
  3. Candidate has made a significant contribution to the field of addiction medicine as determined by the board (example: mentoring, teaching, treatment, research)
